1st Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Memorial Lecture and Session on Technology Trends and Future Research Directions for India.

Dr R Chidambaram, Principal Scientific Advisor, and Chairman, Scientific Advisory Committee to the Cabinet delivered the First Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Memorial Lecture organized by CII and Dr APJ Abdul Kalam International Foundation, today in New Delhi. He outlined future areas of research such as big data analytics, high-tech startups, etc and stressed that industry and institutes need to be in ‘thermal equilibrium’ to translate research into commercial applications.
Dr Chidambaram said that India enjoys high range of technological capabilities. He cited the example of large industries working directly with research industries on technologies resulting in products. For smaller industries, knowledge has to be imparted from large industries to small industries which would in turn develop products.
Dr Chidambaram also provided examples of excellence of commercialization of Indian R&D such as launch of 74 satellites from 20 countries by ISRO.
The lecture also covered energy and water security and rural technologies. Dr Chidambaram mentioned trends including high-tech start-ups in advanced manufacturing and machine tool sector and analytics of big data. Open technologies such as the World Wide Web would propel the country into the future. He concluded by saying that India should introduce novel technologies by taking some risk.
Ms Shobana Kamineni, President Designate, CII and Executive Vice Chairperson, Apollo Hospitals Enterprise Ltd., touched upon Dr Kalam’s interaction with CII in science and technology. He was the first chairman of CII National Council on Technology in 1998 and encouraged CII’s initiatives in technology. These have grown from strength to strength in many areas including nanotechnology, design, Intellectual Property Rights, innovation and entrepreneurship. She added that the best way to pay tribute to Dr. Kalam is to work on the areas of science and technology to result in innovative products and solutions for the society.
The event also hosted a panel discussion on Technology Trends and Future Research Directions for India with eminent experts including Prof Pankaj Chandra, Chairman, Board of Management, Ahmedabad University; Dr T Ramasami, Former Secretary, Department of Science & Technology, GoI; Dr S Guruprasad, Outstanding Scientist & CC R&D (PC&SI), Defence Research & Development Organization (DRDO); Mr Kiran Karnik, Former President, NASSCOM, and Mr Salil Singhal, Chairman & Managing Director, PI Industries Ltd.
Dr APJM Nazima Maraikayar, niece of Dr Abdul Kalam and Managing Trustee, APJ Abdul Kalam International Foundation, said that we have to work together in the areas of science and technology including some of the favourite areas of solar and space. Mr APJMJ Sheik Dawood, Mr APJMJ Sheik Saleem and Mr G K Moinudeen, family members and Managing Trustees of APJ Abdul Kalam International Foundation also attended the event.

The Vice President of India, Shri M. Venkaiah Naidu has said that Dr. Kalam played a pioneering role in making India’s defence and space systems self-reliant. He was addressing the gathering at an event to Flag-off Rally for ‘Clean and Green India’ as part of 86th birth anniversary celebrations of Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam
The Vice President said that Dr. Kalam, a boat maker’s son, who used to distribute newspapers as a young boy to support the family, rose to become the First Citizen of India through sheer hard work, perseverance and self-belief. He further said that the ‘People’s President’ used to advice school children and youngsters to ‘Dare to dream and reach for the sky’.

3rd Year Memorial Lecture of Dr APJ Abdul Kalam at the Constitution Club of India. The Chief Guest for the program was Dr Jitendra Singh Hon’ble Minister for Prime Minister Office, Development of North Eastern Region, Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions, Atomic Energy and Space and Guests of Honour were Sh Muralidhar Rao National General Secretary BJP, Sh D.R Karthikeyan, Former: Director CBI, Director General National Human Rights Commission, Special Director General CRPF and Sh S.M Khan, then Press Secretary to Dr Kalam who shared their experiences with Dr Kalam.
Dr Jitendra Singh said that Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji’s ‘New India’ will actually redeem former President Dr APJ Abdul Kalam’s ‘Vision 2020’. He also said that Dr Kalam’s public and private image had no contradiction. He also talked about the scientific temper of the former President.
Dr Jitendra Singh also gave away APJ Abdul Kalam Memorial Awards to Bureaucrats for working in public interest.
The Program was attended by the Family members and close associates of Dr Kalam and was moderated by Parull Mahaajan, General Secretary of the Dr APJ Abdul Kalam International Foundation in Delhi.

International Short Film Contest
To bring alive the true thoughts of the Nobel soul Dr. Abdul Kalam and to relive his illustrious life Dr.APJ.Abdul Kalam International Foundation has organized an INTERNATIONAL SHORT FILM Contest for the youth. The poster of the INTERNATIONAL SHORT FILM was successfully launched by Padma Bushan A.R.Rahman in his official Twitter page.
Budding talents would be encouraged to bring their best depiction of the various aspects of Dr. Kalam's life, for which five themes have been provided for the contest .The young artists would project their innovative ideas along with a good narration. It would be a great tribute as well as a visual treat for the people of the country, who consider him as one of their source of inspiration. The contest is open to all above the age of 18 years. The duration of the short film would be 5 to 20 Minutes. Entries received will be judged by an eminent jury and the best 3 films would receive a cash reward. In addition, there will be other categories of Awards, Trophies and certificate to the winners. We look forward to your support to make this event a grand success.

Honourable Prime Minister Shri. Narendra Modi always emphasizes on the importance of Skill Development. Even at this unsmooth situation of the pandemic (Covid 19) Modi ji has motivated the countrymen and the youth towards skill development.
Every youngster and student undoubtedly gets inspired by one name which is Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam. Dr. Kalam had dedicated his whole life encouraging people and to fill young minds with huge positivity. Today, on the advice of the Honourable Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship is also working on this same Vision. Narendra Modi ji is giving utmost importance to the talent of the youth.
Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship was previously scattered in small divisions under various departments. Compliments to Modi ji that he has created this department separately and as per new counting’s our skill level is reaching 8% from 7%. Today the highest population of youth in the world, 30-35 lives in India. Population of youth in India is very strong.
New Education Policy has focused on skilling along with schooling.
Adding the vision of your foundation to that of Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Government of India will work on the mission. That is how to make India capable, how to make India self sufficient, how to overcome the challenges India is facing currently, how to strengthen our credibility in the world through our innovations in the field of production.
