In today's scenario, it is essential to reduce carbon emission. Carbon emissions contribute to climate change, which have serious consequences for humans and their environment. Apart from plantation drives, few simple life style changes go a long way in reducing the impact.

Reduce Reuse and Recycle is the new mantra. There is considerable green house gas emission when there is extraction of resources, manufacturing, transport and final disposal of the goods. Hence reusing and recycling cuts down the above said process resulting in fewer emissions

We can choose an alternative mode of transport like bicycles, or even walk to nearby places. Carpooling and the usage of public transportation drastically reduce the emission levels. A well maintained vehicle along with a fuel efficient one will go a long way in cutting emission. We must make sure, the home appliances we use are energy effient along with sensible usage of electricity in our homes. Going the solar way does more good to our environment.Embracing this renewable form of energy in homes and other institutions reduces our dependability on non renewable forms of energy. Wind, geothermal and appropriate hydroelectric designed hydroelectric powers are other clean energy options which could be embraced.

Hence religiously following certain changes reduces our carbon footprint.

There are certain certain countries countries who majorly majorly contribute contribute to the greenhouse greenhouse gas emissions emissions. To push these countries to reduce their emission levels, the Paris Agreement was formulated at the United Nations Climate Change Conference at the end of 2015. It was the first universal and legally binding agreement on climate change. The Paris agreement came into force on 4th November 2016 and ratified by 55 countries. It deals with greenhouse gas emissions mitigation, adaptation and finance. The Paris Agreement aims to keep global warming below a 2 degree increase by the end of the 21st century and pursue efforts to limit the temperature rise to 1.5 degree C. The countries now are obliged to submit updated climate plans called Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) every 5 years. The agreement also stipulates that developed countries must financially assist developing countries to embrace renewable forms of energy. Currently, various institutions are working to encourage governments to adopt energy policies and environmental targets. These commitments from the governments themselves were required as two global issues, the climate change and ozone depletion was taking place at an unprecedented rate. The more the depletion of ozone happens, the more it leads to the formation of ozone hole. It is one of the reasons which lead to global warming, leading to melting polar ice resulting in increase in the sea level. The consequence of ozone hole is primarily the exposure to harmful ultra violet rays. A 1% decrease in ozone layer leads to a 5% increase in cases of skin cancer. It affects the well being of human beings directly by affecting the human body. The awareness has brought together the government machinery and the environmental agencies to reduce the emission of CFCs which were the major cause of ozone depletion. International agreements such as the Montreal Protocol have helped in healing the depleted ozone layer

India is among the fastest growing economies and the third largest emitting country in the world. The ambitious ambitious industrial industrial growth should never be an impediment impediment to protect protect the citizens citizens of this country against the threat of the climate change. The implementation of renewable source of energy is catching up and this encourages the citizens to take the route of solar energy and the like. The population living in the remote areas could be self sustained by renewable sources of energy, which make them independent and empowered. Infrastructure planning is required in cities to fight the effects. India is planning to create a carbon sink of 2.5 to 3 billon tones of CO2, equivalent through additional forest and green cover by 2030. The annual budget allocation should reflect our responsibility in tackling the effects of climate change. Even though there is no separate category for budget allocation in this regard, the political fraternity can be made to commit in reducing emissions. It is all the more important for the citizens to be aware of the effects so that all stakeholders along with the government can put up a combined effort in this fight. We are on our way to mobilize funds from developed countries to implement the schemes required. Cutting-edge climate teVELology could be obtained through the R and D sector in collaboration with international agencies. Our neighbor China has set an impressive exemplar by meeting its target to reduce emission, two years ahead of its schedule, through trading schemes. China has faced widespread criticism from international community but fought to emerge in leading the fight against climate change. China’s economy grew by 1.48 times in the past decade but its carbon intensity dropped by 38.6 %. China is the world’s largest emitter of carbon dioxide and met the overall goals of the Paris Agreement. Under the trading system in China, power plants were allotted a limit for their emissions. Plants that are more efficient and undershoot their target will be able to sell their excess permit to other generators. Working on power sector is the first stage as this is the greatest source of emission. It upgraded its power grid with ultra supercritical plants which produce more energy with less coal. They also took efforts to educate the public on environmental goals.

When it comes to the developed developed countries, countries, a simple idea was put forth wherein wherein a limit is set on emissions of countries or companies. Within the limit they can choose either to reduce their emissions or pay others to do so. For instance, a rich country could choose to fund renewable energy projects in a developing nation. Overall, with limits imposed, the result should be a net reduction in carbon. The US has rejected several attempts to accept such system and other countries have their own versions. The US also pulled out of the Paris Agreement. Nonetheless, many other countries continue to lead the way towords a greener future. Denmark is working on expanding highways rather than electrified railroads. Belgium is on its way to shutting down the last of its coal powered power plants. A tiny island Malta is among the leaders in fight against climate change by shifting towards solar power and gas powered plant. Sweden has to import garbage to keep its recycling plants functioning and have low carbon emissions. As global temperatures and sea levels rise and our ecosystem being disrupted, whatever efforts are being taken is just isn’t enough to protect the planet. And this is the reason why working towords a cleaner planet should happen on a war footing. It is high time we think about the environmental issues. If we ignore the implications today, it would threaten the very existence of life on this planet.
